It is with great sadness that we can announce the passing of Graham Sidney Jones, one of the founders of Jones Weatherproofing (formally Jones and Woolman UK).

Known to everyone as Sid, he will be remembered for always doing things his own way. That’s probably what led him to start Jones and Woolman UK in 1979 with his business partner and two sons, Daren and Steve. The company began as a small factory in Birmingham, manufacturing fibreglass products; after a few years, it began specialising in roofing.

Sid was an influential part of the company for decades, and through his hard work and dedication, Jones Weatherproofing grew into the business that we are so proud of today.

Although he retired a few years ago, Sid was close with many of our team members, having worked side-by-side with many of them for years. He also built lasting relationships with many customers.

Sid will be greatly missed by his family and colleagues, and we will remember him fondly.

Restructuring our management team: cementing our future as leaders in building penetrations

We are pleased to announce that as of Monday, August 10th, Jones Weatherproofing will be making changes to our management team. These internal promotions will help to drive the business forward and cement our place as the leader in roofing and cladding penetrations and weathering systems.

Daren Jones and Steve Jones will become joint Managing Directors, developing strategic guidance, and directing the company into the future.

Daren joined the family business straight out of school at 16 years old. In his previous role as sales director, his eye for detail and pragmatic approach to challenges demonstrated his ability to provide effective leadership.

Steve will be moving up from his previous role as Contracts Director. He will continue to working in a very customer-focused position, spending much of his time supporting our clients to continue the development of strong relationships that are at the heart of what we do.

Matthew Jones will be promoted to Sales Director. Matt joined the family business in December 2016, after spending four years in service delivery management with Capgemini. His passion for the business is clear and, in his new role, he will provide leadership, making strategic decisions and looking to expand the business in to new areas while ensuring excellent service and quality for all of our clients is maintained.

Neil Boylan will be taking Steve’s place as Contracts Director. Neil joined the business in 1996 as a site operative. His attention to detail, ambition and forward-thinking nature have helped him to establish himself as a valued member of our team and grow with the company over the last 20 years. He will play a key part in the new management team, overseeing our commercial contracts and further building relationships with clients across the UK.

To support these promotions, Kelly Cunningham and Emma Bradshaw will also be taking on new roles.

Kelly has been with the business since 2008 and over the last year, her responsibilities have shifted to office manager and marketing assistant. Thanks to her excellent organisational skills and ability to get things done, she is instrumental in the day-to-day running of the business.

Emma will be dealing with the administration and accounts side of the business. Emma has proven herself to be a valued member of the team. She works well with management and provides a motivating influence on the entire company with her positive and outgoing attitude.

Commenting on the changes to the management team, Matt Jones explained: “This is an exciting time for Jones Weatherproofing, and these moves will help us to offer more to our clients. The company was established as a family business in 1979, and we continue to treat it as a family business, more than 40 years later.”

He added: “We believe in promoting from within, helping our valued team members reach their full potential and these moves will make the most of the vast talent we have within our team.”

As well as these moves occurring within the management team, Jones Weatherproofing is also looking to bring in some new talent. We are looking for a sales/business development manager who can help to grow our brand further and generate new business leads. For more information or to apply for the role, visit our careers page.

Celebrating 40 years of building penetration solutions

Here at Jones Weatherproofing, we take pride in providing high-quality and reliable building and roof penetration solutions – and we are delighted to announce that 2019 marks our 40th anniversary!

Over the years, we have worked hard to perfect our systems, improve techniques and make the most of new materials and technology to ensure that the work we do looks good, is weatherproof and will withstand the test of time – just like our company.

Many of the building penetrations, roof windows, rooflights and architectural mouldings that we installed decades ago are still in use today. We expect the projects we work on today to last through their 25-year warranty and beyond, and we look forward to re-visiting them on our 65th anniversary.

To celebrate our ruby anniversary, we thought we’d take a quick look at some of the roofing projects we’ve worked on during our four decades in business.

40 years of building penetration solutions

Over 40 Years delivering watertight roofing solutions!

Weathering to sports stadia

Successfully weatherproofing a sports stadium requires significant planning and effort – columns, supports, ties, struts and other structural elements penetrate various types of cladding, including composite, single skin and in-plane GRP rooflight areas.

We’ve worked on many such projects over the years, for high-profile clients whose solutions haven’t failed for over 20 years. One such client was Celtic FC in Glasgow. Others have included Manchester United, Blackpool FC, Charlton Athletic, Chelsea FC, Norwich City, Bradford City, Walsall FC and Dundalk Greyhound Stadium.

In 2015, we also worked on the project to transform the Olympic Stadium in London to the new home of West Ham United.

Roof and wall cladding penetrations for factories, shopping centres and other large buildings

We’ve worked on a number of roof and wall penetrations, including service risers, to accommodate building services, plant and rooflights for large buildings such as factories, shopping centres, warehouses, social housing, hotels and transport hubs.

For example, in 2014, we completed several contracts at the new Jaguar Land Rover Advanced Engine Manufacturing plant in Wolverhampton. The projects included penetrations through the roof and wall cladding for M&E services and structural steelwork.

Other projects have included rooflights at Cadbury Leominster, the new Leeds railway station and the new Doha international airport in Qatar.

Smaller projects and historic buildings

While much of the work we carry out is for large projects and new builds, our team is also capable of carrying out smaller projects, and we even have experience working on historic properties.

Success in these projects is all thanks to our extensive experience, careful planning and expert team. It just goes to show how our long history has helped us to perfect our quality and processes. Plus, since our staff retention is extremely high, the knowledge and skills of our team are extensive – and they are capable of handling bespoke projects of any size or complexity.

One such project that we worked on was a weathering and roof repairs for a historic windmill. Following completion, the client praised the team, the workmanship and the quality of the weatherproofing. He noted that before we began work, the windmill’s leaky roof let in “pints if not gallons” of water whenever it rained – but now “not one drop of rain makes its way in”.

Jones Weatherproofing: building penetrations, rooflights, roof windows and GRP architectural mouldings

As experts in roof and building penetrations, Jones Weatherproofing is delighted to be celebrating our 40th anniversary, and we’re thankful to all the clients we’ve worked with over the years. We’ve come a long way since we started out, and we look forward to another four decades of building customer relationships and providing weatherproof solutions.

Whether you’re looking for durable, low-maintenance and weatherproof roof penetrations, cladding penetrations, roof windows or GRP architectural mouldings, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’ll be happy to discuss your project in more detail.
